Socotra Island is an island located between the Arabian Sea and the Guardafui Channel, Around 340km south of Yemen. Socotra is known for its beautiful beaches and unique greenery. It contains around 307 endemic (Found only here) plant species including the famous ‘Dragon Blood Trees’Â (Dracaena cinnabari).
Nature & Wildlife
The infamous ‘Dragon’s Blood Tree’ is native only to Socotra Island. It is an umbrella-shaped tree that secretes blood-red sap. The sap is used as a dye and has historically been used as a ‘Cure-All’ medicine, and it is still to this day used to treat Cancer, Diabetes, Inflammation, Diarrhoea, Ulcers and is used as an anti-microbial.
The Socotra Island Baboon Tarantula (Monocentropus Balfouri) is a rare Tarantula native to the island of Socotra. It’s legs are a remarkable electric blue and the females reach within 4-5 inches.
