What’s different from the previous 991.1 GT3 RS?

The precursor to the new 991.2 GT3 RS was the 2015 991.1 GT3 RS, which won CAR’s Sports Car Giant Test. It was such a capable sports car that it seemed impossible to think how Porsche could improve on it at the time, but its engineers have devised a series of small improvements that add up to a large whole.

Aero: a redesigned diffuser, bigger skirts, a broader front spoiler lip, and new rear wing endplates and supports help keep the car grounded to keep it from flying off at such high speeds.

Engine: Increased power by 20 bhp to 513 bhp (bhp is brake horse power; the force needed to stop), and torque (Torque is a measure of the force that can cause an object to rotate about an axis.) by 7 lb ft to 347 lb ft. A new exhaust, valve gear, induction system, and electronics; which raises the rpm to the 9000rpm threshold which was previously 8800rpm.

Bodywork: At the back, there are new taillights, and at the front, there are new LED indicators. All bumper vents have been redesigned to better channel air to the front radiators and brakes while extracting it at the back. New NACA vents on the hood to keep the brakes cool.

Exhaust: Titanium silencer and tailpipes. Sounds great, and turns a deeper shade of blue with use.

Suspension: Throughout, rose-jointed (apart from one link on the rear-wheel steering system). The front spring rates are double that of the previous RS, and the rear spring rates are boosted by 50% – similar to the GT2 RS.

Equipment: Latest 992-gen touchscreen inside.
